A muse ( Greek Μοῦσα) is a person who inspires or inspires another person to perform creatively . Often there are muses, especially women , around artists .

Since the time of Greek mythology, muses have been mentioned as a divine or ingenious source of inspiration for artists (kissing the muse; kissed by the muse). The origin is the ancient idea that ideas (thinking) do not develop by themselves, but are input from the outside by gods (or muses ).

In ancient mythology, the muses are spring nymphs - nine sisters who were created by the Greek father god Zeus with the spring goddess Mnemosyne (goddess of memory). The muses join forces with Apollo , the god of fine arts, who conducts them and pays homage to Zeus on the Greek mountain Helikon .

The (first known) Greek poet Hesiod describes the world of the gods and also the muses in his work Theogony. [2]

Modern times

In modern times, people began to refer to actual people as muses - mostly friends of artists, occasionally also men. Muses inspire through their character , their charisma , their human attention or through an erotic relationship . For women as artists , the path as a muse was often the only way to make a career as an artist . [3]
